Learn To BASE Jump

First Jump Course

Course Location & Duration
This 4.5 day course is held at the Perrine Bridge in Twin Falls, Idaho. Please plan for an additional day at the end of the course in case of weather delays. We also highly recommend extending your trip by at least seven days to continue reinforcing your new skills. While we understand this may not be feasible for everyone, the added time can significantly support your progression. With favorable weather conditions, you can expect to complete 15–18 BASE jumps by the end of the course.

Course Overview
This intensive First Jump Course (FJC) is designed for qualified skydivers, paragliders, and speed flyers looking to enter the world of BASE jumping. We cover many critical aspects of BASE that are often overlooked in other FJCs. Our focus is on survival, sustainability, and safe progression.

Each student learns differently, with varying skill levels and progression speeds. That’s why we tailor our instruction to fit each individual. You’ll be evaluated continuously throughout the course, and progression is based on our observations of your readiness. Some students may advance to more complex steps, while others may need more time—and that’s perfectly okay. Our goal is for every student to gain as much knowledge and experience as possible within a safe and supportive structure.

Important Note:
Like all FJCs, this course does not qualify you to BASE jump solid objects independently. After completing the course, we recommend making at least 75+ BASE jumps at the Perrine Bridge before attempting more advanced objects such as cliffs, antennas, or buildings. A detailed progression plan will be discussed during the course to help guide you toward a safe and sustainable BASE career.

Your Instructor: Chase Reinford

With nearly 9 years of experience in BASE, Chase has mastered every discipline within the sport. He is known for his advanced aerials, low technical freefall, and wingsuit proximity flying. He has jumped in over 30 countries and has opened approximately 150 objects. His meticulous approach to object assessment and risk management, coupled with thorough training, has allowed him to push the boundaries of the sport safely.

•Modern BASE Equipment: We recommend modern, well-maintained equipment. We  offer a $400 discount on new gear for our students! A new rig will cost approximately $4,300. Please allow 15+ weeks for new gear orders.

•Rental Car: This is not required but having a few rental cars available will be beneficial, especially if you choose the leisurely hike out instead of the more strenuous direct climb out.

Gear Rental:

Gear rental is available for $20 per jump. Please note that you are responsible for any damage you may cause to the gear.

Course Costs:

•FJC Course: $1,750

Please note that travel, lodging, and food are not included in the course costs. No refunds will be given in the event of poor weather, but you are welcome to join any future course at no additional charge.

Lodging:

An Airbnb will be available for the group at an estimated cost of $250-$300 total for the 5-night stay.

Course Requirements:

•Canopy Piloting Competency: Whether in speedflying, paragliding, or skydiving, your safety is our top priority, and proper experience in air-sports is critical. Please be honest with yourself and us about your skills and abilities. This is essential for a long and safe BASE career. Email us with your air sports experience to apply.

•BASE Packing :Our packing tutorial video can be found here. You are responsible for watching and learning these packing techniques before arriving. Everything you need to know is covered in the video. If you need a practice rig, we can send one to you 2 weeks prior—please note that you will be responsible for all associated costs. We require that you arrive with the ability to pack your rig within 45 minutes. If you show up unprepared, you will miss out on jumps.

•Athletic Background: A background in team sports, extreme sports, acrobatics, or other high-stress activities is beneficial. Athleticism will help you progress faster and survive longer. If you are uncoordinated, not athletic, or react slowly in emergencies, BASE jumping is not for you. This sport requires mental and physical agility.

I absolutely recommend this course to anyone who is serious about entering the sport of BASE. Chase is an exceptional teacher and mentor. His course covered everything from packing techniques, gear checks/set up, PCA’s, handheld exits, body position, free fall, obstacle avoidance, situational assessment, and the very important ethics of BASE. Class size was small, only 4 or 5 students per course, which meant lots of 1 on 1 time with Chase. He never failed to answer any question I had, and would use his real world experiences and lessons learned from a career with thousands of BASE jumps, in all disciplines of the sport, to give perspective on whatever it was I was curious about. He wasn’t a one size fits all teacher either, he would find out each students goal in BASE, and help give tips that would best suit that specific discipline, teaching each student at their own pace. He has built a great culture/camaraderie within the course, and the guys I met there will be my friends for life. Once I left the course and started jumping on my own, Chase was always there for me via text or a call if I ever had any questions, or needed advice with anything. I can’t recommend his course enough if you are at the point where you’re serious about starting into the sport of BASE, Chase is your man.

The exile fjc is the perfect introduction to the base world. Safety is the number one priority of the course which is drilled into your head from day one. The emphasis on obstacle avoidance and learning your own base canopy is what make this course so sick. Chase will help you dial in your canopy settings to match you right off the bat so your canopy flies optimally. The course is a ton of fun and you meet some sick lifelong friends. It’s a great time and I highly recommend 🤘 .

Chase’s course is the most in-depth introduction to BASE you can get. He focuses on each jumper individually throughout the course, tailoring the curriculum to your specific needs so you can be the best jumper possible. This FJC prioritizes action and repetition over memorization; ingraining the skills you need to survive into instinctual reactions so that there’s no time lost when the time comes to use them. If you want a long and thrilling journey in BASE, this is the course for you.

I could not be happier with my experience in Chase’s BASE course. I was genuinely nervous about getting into BASE and finding the right mentor, but Chase exceeded every expectation. His course goes far beyond just jumping off an object. We focused heavily on canopy skills, gear function, and most importantly, how to respond when things do not go as planned. This training gave me the tools to recover from malfunctions and land safely under pressure. Chase’s teaching style instilled real confidence and put me on the best possible path to becoming a safe, skilled BASE jumper. I am incredibly grateful to have him as an instructor. Even after the course, I know I will continue learning from him and pushing my limits in the right way. I highly recommend this course to anyone considering getting into BASE. Thank you, Chase, for an unforgettable experience. I will see you at the bridge again soon.

Exile BASE delivers a course built for true longevity in the sport. The training felt personalized to our individual skill levels, with a strong focus on canopy drills that really set it apart. Practicing backflying and handling malfunctions in such a controlled and safe environment gave me a level of confidence I didn’t expect from a first jump course. Chase’s ground training was thorough and thoughtful. We covered everything: malfunctions and how to handle them, BASE ethics, static line techniques, packing tips, stowed jumps, and how to PCA your buddy. He was always approachable and ready to answer any question with clarity and patience. It was an incredible experience — hands down the best introduction to BASE jumping I could have asked for. My only complaint? I wish he ran terminal courses too.

A couple of things really stood out to me about Exile’s course. First was the attention to detail when it came to safety. It gave me real confidence in the gear I was jumping. Second was the focus on canopy skills, which was not only fun but incredibly effective. Flying the Gryphus made me feel like a pro pilot. The accuracy it gave me was unreal. In my opinion, this is possibly the best introduction to BASE you can take.

What an experience! Absolutely life changing to say the least. This isn’t like other courses, we focused on extensive canopy skills. When we felt ready we did packed 180s for obstacle avoidance practice. This FJC was a boost into a great knowledge base and the world of BASE jumping. No b*llshit, be fast, it will save you. We learned how to enjoy the sport while simultaneously thriving and surviving it. My absolute favorite part was the time we spent under canopy, all my boys could f***ing fly those things! I believe that Chase's unique approach to BASE created a much safer FJC and the reason we had no injuries during the course. 5 stars baby!

Taking the Exile BASE First Jump Course was the best experience of my life. Chase could not have been a better coach and created a super positive and supportive environment. I was super impressed with how attentive he was and involved with everyone he was. He gave his advice from personal experience to keep us safe and help us understand the dangers in BASE. He had us work on canopy skills each jump, which helped me be more confident and to jump more than I expected. I now feel more prepared to explore BASE safely and will definitely be on a GRYPHUS

My experience with Exile BASE's first jump course was seriously one of the best things I’ve done. Chase isn’t just a bad*ss instructor, he’s also a great mentor and just an all-around good guy. He knows BASE inside and out and teaches in a way that makes you feel confident and calm. What really makes him stand out is how much he cares about safety. That’s always the top priority, and he makes sure every student is totally ready before jumping. The course wasn’t some cookie cutter setup either. Chase tweaked the instruction and gear for each of us, and that made a huge difference in how fast I learned and how comfortable I felt. On top of all that, Chase brings real passion and energy to the sport. He created an environment that was supportive, dialed in, and honestly just a lot of fun. Whether it’s your first jump or you’ve got a few under your belt, I highly recommend Exile BASE. The whole thing was unforgettable.
